The purpose of this article is to describe a protocol for when I need to chat with a friend. It explains what it means when I send you an emoji of a kite: πͺ
If you want to use this yourself, and share this article and protocol with others, feel free to do so. If you send me a kite, then I ‘ll interpret it in the same way I describe in this article.
Sometimes I have moments where I feel like I need to speak with someone.
Sometimes, it’s because things are feeling heavy. This has been the case a lot lately.
Sometimes, I have something on my mind and I need to “think out loud” with someone, instead of circling in my own head.
There can be all sorts of reasons.
When I’m in this position, my mind is going in all sorts of directions at once, and I don’t know who to talk to, or how to reach out to them.
I’m usually feeling pretty vulnerable, and I can’t deal with too much explicit ~rejection.
I also know that we’re all living busy lives, and I don’t want to burden or impose on someone who isn’t in the right headspace for a conversation.
Because of this, I don’t know where to start. I usually don’t reach out to anyone, and end up in my own head. Which usually isn’t the best place to be.
So here is my solution.
When I’m in this position, I’ll fly some kites. I’ll send a kite emoji (πͺ) to one or more people, via text message, Whatsapp, Messenger, Telegram, etc.
If you receive this message, please don ‘t feel like there’s any burden or obligation to chat. I won’t treat it as a rejection or hold it against you. I will simply assume that you either didn’t receive the message, or that you received it at a bad time for you.
My expectation is that if I need to chat, I’ll probably have to reach out to several people, so I won’t be flying a kite and relying on you. So again, no pressure and obligation.
But if you have the time and the inclination? Let me know, and I’ll be grateful.
Thanks
πͺ
